When I was profile whoring in Second Life  I found myself feeling a twinge of jealousy and hurt when someone who had always professed I was their best friend had two picks in their profile describing their feelings for someone else as their best friend when for years now they’d constantly sworn I was their best friend. (And before people think this was Rowan’s profile it wasn’t.) I found myself berating myself a little about being so juvinile in my reaction but it got me thinking about what it means to be someone’s best friend and if it was really possible to have more than one best friend.

I look at myself as an example. If people ask who my best friend is I am always quick to answer but my answer depends on who is asking. Of course my best friend beyond everyone else is Stix. Habit has be always naming Chant and Bentley as close seconds. I always suggest my best friend from school is Ors.  I would also say that Andi is amongst my best friends. Then there is Rocstar but he’s my soul mate and I don’t see him as a friend per say.

My thoughts led me on a google search and I came up with this:

So if that’s the definition I wonder if I am holding on to “best friends” that no longer fit the definition. I truly hope not.
